21/11/09: New ranking battle page under construction.  Keep Zangief busy!

The Dragonslayers Ranking Battles are a series of one on one fighting game tournaments. Local players contest with each other on a monthly basis to determine who the better competitor is. Points that a player earns in the RanBats accumulate on the league table (see below). At the end of the season, the players with the most points in the respective games will have earned the right to call themselves the best in the club at that game.

The RanBats are for players of all skill levels. If you’re new to a game you will be able to pick up some help and be able to find out how to improve. Or if you’re an old pro, you might find a challenge here. Either way, if you’re into fighting games you will meet more people who are into the same hobby.

The two games being played this season are Street Fighter IV and Tekken 6.  Previously, seasons one and two have featured:

  • Street Fighter III: 3rd Strike
  • Guilty Gear XX Accent Core
  • Tekken 5
  • Capcom vs SNK 2
  • The King of Fighters XI
  • Melty Blood Act Cadenza

Each season lasts as long as an academic year to co-incide with the strongest attendance of Dragonslayers.  The year ends after the exams in May and June.  At the end of June Q-Con, the annual anime and gaming convention run by Dragonslayers, occurs.  Amongst many other attractions Q-Con features prize supported fighting game tournaments and related arcade machines that attract many attendees.  The Street Fighter IV tournament at Q-Con 2009 had 44 contestants for top spot.  This is a great way to show your skill to a wider audience and meet many other players.
