First of all, I'd like to give a big welcome to all the new Queen's students who are entering the
wonderful world of Student Life. All the studying you will of course be doing can be stressful, and
everyone needs a place to unwind and have fun - that is where Dragonslayers comes in!
Read on to learn all about Dragonslayers... We are the biggest non-sporting society in Queen's and were awarded QUB Society of the year 2005/2006. We meet every Tuesday from 6.30pm to 11pm in the Psyhology Department of the David Keir Building, Malone Road.
What is there to do at Dragonslayers?
Tabletop Games
Dragonslayers members take part in a wide range of tabletop games. We have many active roleplaying groups playing games such as Dungeons & Dragons, Call Cthulhu, the World of Darkness series plus many others. As well as roleplaying, we have many War Gamers at the club playing Warhammer 40k, Warhammer Fantasy Battle and Babylon 5: Call to Arms.
Collectable Card Gamers also have a home at Dragonslayers, with Yu-Gi-Oh!, Magic the Gathering and Vampire: The Eternal Struggle proving very popular. For the upcoming 2006/2007 year we will have Nathan from Impulse Comics & Games, which will allow Dragonslayers to host sanctioned DCI and UDE tournaments.
Console Games
As well as traditional games, Dragonslayers is also home to students who are fans of electronic gaming in all its forms. Our members play games of all kinds on the club's X-Box 360 as well as their own X-Boxes, Playstation 2's and GameCubes. Equipment is available for networking consoles and playing them on large projector screens.
We also have members playing multiplayer handheld games on Nintendo DS and Sony PSP, as well as retro consoles such as the SNES.
Anime
As well as gaming, Dragonslayers also has a weekly Anime Screen, which is held in one of the DKB's large lecture theatres. Each week, with the kind permission of the distributers, we show a selection of Anime. This includes episodes of popular TV Shows, movies and Dragonslayers Exclusives, such as a preview screening of Ghost in the Shell 2.
The current Anime schedule can always be found in Anime section under the information menu this website, and the Anime section of the DS forums.
Does Dragonslayers do anything else?
As well as our weekly meetings every Tuesday, Dragonslayers has regular social and gaming events. On the social side of things we have regular cinema trips, and nights out just having fun. On the gaming side of things we host several large events each year, including DragonLAN, our 24-hour PC LAN and Gaming Event. Our largest event is Q-Con, which is held in June of every year over three days. This year, Q-Con XIII attracted over 600 gamers and anime fans, and was the largest event of its kind in Ireland.
How do I join Dragonslayers?
The best time to join Dragonslayers is at the Fresher's Bazaar, which will be held on Wednesday 27th September in the QUB Students' Union.
