It is with deep regret that my first post on this website as President of Dragonslayers is to inform you of the death of a previous Club President. Alan Neill, who was president of the club for several years during the nineties passed away on the 29th May 2006. As is the ever changing nature of University societies, by the time I joined Dragonslayers Alan was no longer an active member. Therefore I never had the chance to know him personally, however in the time since his death I have talked with people who did know Alan and read posts from the members of TableTopNorth, from this I can see that not knowing him was indeed my loss.
They have painted a picture for me of a man who really loved his games, who loved life and who had the drive to make a society like Dragonslayers reach its full potential.
As the Dragonslayers committee and membership carry out final preparations for Q-Con XIII we should remember that it was Alan who had the idea to run the first Q-Con and that without his belief and hard work in organising it we would not be here thirteen years later doing the very same thing.
I would like to extend my sympathies and those of the Dragonslayers to Cathy, to his family and to his friends. |
