Have you ever wondered what it would be like to have a barbeque running alongside a LARP (Live Action Role Play)? Well, I was not quite sure what to expect… but everyone came together under two very important common interests: good games, good food. Unfortunately due to the rather poor weather conditions, the event did not exactly go according to plan, forcing us to relocate from Lady Dixon Park to the Dragonslayers Presidents house. As always though, the Dragonslayers spirits were not dampened by the forecast, or the downpours, and everyone was very enthusiastic. To the passers by this was clearly apparent as many of our fellow members took to the streets around the Lisburn Road to face it off in a water fight.
The night was a little slow to start, but after Ben, the club president, finally got a gazebo that had all its parts, we could eventually begin preparing for an excellent feast. Two hours later, when the barbeques were nicely burning, Dragonslayers very own professional chef took over. Paul, who gracefully volunteered to show off his professional culinary talent, began to cook in earnest.
Of course, the fire brigade paid us a visit which was quite hilarious, as most of us thought that perhaps the house was catching fire, but they simply wanted to retrieve some delicious barbequed food. Unfortunately Noel, our photographer, missed the opportunity of getting this moment on his camera as he insisted to teach fellow gamers a lesson on the X Box game ‘Halo 2’.
After everyone had been fed and watered, the rest of the evening was spent in frivolous conversing and playing ‘Halo 2’ on Bens X-Box and widescreen TV. This unfortunately seemed to involve everyone kicking my ass, so I will defiantly have to start practicing. All in all, the event was a great opportunity to socialize with the all the other Dragonslayers members, outside of the smaller gaming groups.
Thanks again to everyone who came to the barbeque, and especially to Paul for his excellent culinary skills. |
