Dragonslayers Ranking Battles

Here Comes A New Challenger!

The Dragonslayers Ranking Battles are a series of one on one fighting game tournaments. Local players contest with each other on a monthly basis to determine who the better competitor is. Points that a player earns in the RanBats accumulate on the league table (see below). At the end of the season, the players with the most points in the respective games will have earned the right to call themselves the best in the club at that game. The first season will be one month shorter than an academic year, i.e. from September to May.

The RanBats are for players of all skill levels. If you’re new to a game you will be able to pick up some help and be able to find out how to improve. Or if you’re an old pro, you might find a challenge here. Either way, if you’re into fighting games you will meet more people who are into the same hobby.

Between the regular crew, there is a wide variety of taste in the fighting game genre. The most popular games currently are Accent Core and 3rd Strike. So far RanBats have been run for:

Rules

General
  • No button binding - It is not cool to bind buttons together in order to execute a move that requires multiple button presses with just the one button. There is meant to be risk and skill involved in multiple button moves. If you don't have the skill to press more than one button at once then you shouldn't be using the move at all. This rule will be relaxed if you are missing fingers.
  • Character changing - Once you pick a character you must continue using that character until you are beaten. When you are beaten you may pick another character.
  • No programmable pads / sticks - This is not cool. No pads or sticks of this variety may be used.
  • Turbo / slow-mo buttons on pads / stick - If your pad or stick has turbo or slow-mo buttons; don't use them. Doing so will inflict a forfeit on the part of the turbo / slow-mo user.
  • "Lets fight like gentlemen" - Dudley, SF3:3S - Respectable sporting conduct is expected of all participants regardless of how heated competition may get. Personal hygiene should not be such an issue that it distracts other participants.
  • Accidental Pause - This will depend primariliy on how agreable the two participants it effects are. But failing any agreement, the round will be restarted with any previous wins carrying over. To avoid this do not map pause near any of the commonly used buttons.
  • Throwing the match - This is unacceptable. If it can be proved, the offender will be totally disqualified from the current RanBat and any points gained for that RanBat will be removed as a penalty.
  • Grudge Match - This rule only applies during the double elimination section. If two participants meet in the losers bracket after having fought in the winners bracket, the winner of the previous match will be granted one extra life. The extra life only lasts for the duration of the grudge match and will not carry over to any other matches. This rule does not apply to the grand final or 5th and 7th place play-offs.

Street Fighter 3: 3rd Strike
  • Character Ban - Gill is banned.

Guilty Gear XX Accent Core
  • Mode Ban - Gold mode, Ex mode, Shadow mode and the use of characters from pre Accent Core generations are banned.

Tekken 5
